Holiday cheer for children of inmates

Updated: Feb 3, 2022

"Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of mine, you did for me." - Matthew 25:40

The Kids Kount program, administered by Greater Wausau Christian Services (GWCS), presents Christmas gifts to children who have a parent in the local jail. The program began in 1999, and has been delivering presents every since.

An estimated 50-70 children are impacted by this community program, every year. Community members have faithfully given financially and have offered their time to wrap and deliver presents.

GWCS is always looking for help in the following areas:

According to the WI Department of Corrections, 47% of inmates have dependents. Marathon County can currently house 279 inmates.

The 2021 Kids Kount toy drive occurred at 89Q Hope is Here, 3500 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. Thank you 89Q for your generous and kind help, yet again!

Mark your calendars for 2022, as the drive will begin in early November. Call us to get on our lists of volunteers 715.842.5635, or email us, here.

ABOUT: Greater Wausau Christian Services is a community of congregations that brings Christian compassion and hope to individuals and families in elder care facilities and the Marathon County Jail.
