June 2022 - Newsletter Update

Greetings! New things are happening at GWCS!

Staff Changes

Our long time Administrative Assistant, Marlene Shalow, retired at the end of March. The board treated her and her husband to dinner at 2510 Restaurant. Marlene served us faithfully for many years. The Board has hired Sharon Michalski to be our Administrative Assistant. She comes to us with many years of office experience.

At our retirement dinner for Marlene, we also said farewell to our director, Ray Slatton. Because it will be difficult to find a person willing and able to assume the position of director, Ray has indicated that he is willing to stay on until we find a replacement. Ray wears two hats. He is responsible for the elder care facilities, leading worship himself or finding pastors or lay people to lead them. Additionally, Ray is the Chaplain at the Marathon County Jail, providing spiritual guidance to the inmates but also has become a sounding board to the guards at the Jail.

If you know of anyone who might be interested in the Director’s position, please have them call the GWCS office at 715-842-5635 and we will put you in touch with Board President, Richard Hawley.

Technology & Website Update

We have been getting some help with technology in the past few months. Matt Hoyord, a new board member from Mt Olive, has been working with Liz Everson to create a new website for GWCS.

Our new website was created by "Fresh Eye Designs," a professional marketing firm out of Appleton, and we went live with this new format May 10, 2022. The site has a contemporary look and has much more functionality than our previous website. For the 'visitor' it is inviting to get to know us, and it is simple to move around.

For us as the 'owner' of the website, it is effortless to add to and update, which will keep it relevant. One of the newest features which we did not have before is the ability for people to donate electronically to our organization conveniently with a click on the "donate" button.

We will have the support of our website designer for one year, paid for by an anonymous donor. Our marketing firm has provided training for the use of the website, along with suggestions on what to post there. They will now continue to help us with marketing campaigns to promote the Greater Wausau Christian Services ministry. We hope to have more churches partner with us. We have already started work on our first email campaign that will go out in July 2022.

We are confident our new website will provide us with more opportunities to share the word of God in our community, make it convenient for people to contact us for volunteering, and reach other churches in our area who may want to be a supporting member of our organization.

Check us out!

Use Google or another search engine and enter Greater Wausau Christian Services and a link for our website will come up. We welcome people new to GWCS and longtime supporters see what we have to offer to the Wausau area!!
